Le migrazioni nella ricerca geografica italiana dal dopoguerra fino a oggi

Migrations have not been a subject of frequent study by the Italian geography from the immediate post-war period to the early seventies. Italian geographers, in fact, believed that the discipline should concern only material effects of the exodus on the territory and the landscape, leaving the other social sciences to the study of the social, economic, cultural and political causes and consequences of migrations. From the seventies of the twentieth century Italian geography has undertaken a profound epistemological evolution that, instead of the visible aspects of the territory, has put at the center of the investigation the social structures and the subjective perceptions that structure the space. This resulted in such an interest in all aspects of migration. Currently, for example, the description of the geographic distribution of immigrants is aimed at understanding the market dynamics and cultural prejudices and laws that determine the distribution

Le migrazioni non sono state un oggetto di studio frequente da parte della geografia italiana dall’immediato secondo dopoguerra ai primi anni settanta. I geografi italiani, infatti, ritenevano che la disciplina dovesse occuparsi solo degli effetti materiali dell’esodo sul territorio e sul paesaggio, lasciando alle altre scienze sociali lo studio delle cause e delle conseguenze sociali, economiche, culturali e politiche. Dagli anni settanta del Novecento la geografia italiana ha intrapreso una profonda evoluzione epistemologica che ha messo al centro dell’indagine non più gli aspetti visibili del territorio, ma le strutture sociali e le percezioni soggettive che strutturano lo spazio. Ne è scaturito così un interesse per tutti gli aspetti delle migrazioni. Attualmente, ad esempio, la descrizione della distribuzione geografica degli immigrati è finalizzata a comprendere le dinamiche di mercato e culturali, i pregiudizi e le legislazioni che determinano quella distribuzione.
