Itinerari ottocenteschi tra linguistica storico-comparativa e linguistica generale

This volume investigates some aspects of Nineteenth-century linguistic thought, with special regard to the relationship between historical-comparative and general linguistics. The chapters are the revised and updated version of previously published papers, which focus on authors like Franz Bopp, August Friedrich Pott, William Dwight Whitney, Michel Bréal, Adolphe Pictet, Ferdinand de Saussure. Particular attention is devoted to comparative method and linguistic reconstruction, as well as to etymological research and the role of etymology in cultural reconstruction.
