Maestri e maestre in redazione tra otto e novecento

Teachers and Publishing between 18th and 19th Century The article singles out – within the DBE – some profiles of educators and teachers that cooperated with publishing houses between 19th and 20th century, ending up as pillars for major educational publishers. Their manifold activities – as authors, editors, series directors… – were not only a chance to increase their poor incomes, but especially allowed them to integrate and enhance didactic methods, offering up-to-date materials to their colleagues. In this way, publishing houses became proper pedagogic laboratories, even though concern for economic profit remained high, the latter leading to an increase of schoolbooks publishing in that period. A particular attention is devoted to women teacher and their activity as children’s authors.

L’articolo individua nel DBE alcuni profili di educatori e insegnanti che furono attivi tra diciannovesimo e ventesimo secolo nelle case editrici scolastiche, finendo per diventare i veri e propri pilastri su cui queste si reggevano. L’attività in redazione – come autori, redattori, direttori editoriali ecc. – non solo consentì a queste figure di integrare i modesti guadagni di insegnanti, ma fu intesa come un’opportunità per arricchire e migliorare i metodi didattici offrendo ai colleghi materiali aggiornati. Le case editrici specializzate divennero così veri e propri laboratori pedagogici, sebbene permanesse un’attenzione al profitto economico che fu il vero motore dell’editoria scolastica di quegli anni. Un particolare interesse è rivolto nel contributo alle donne insegnanti e alla loro attività di autrici per bambini e ragazzi.
