Renata Mambelli’s novel Argentina (2009) belongs to the overall discourse on the history of the Italian migration to Argentina. Such a subject emerged in Italian literature beginning from the nineties, with the purpose of representing the silent and unknown flow of people from one country to the other. A female novel, Argentina deals with the theme of Italian emigration during the thirties by embracing a gender perspective. The heart of the representation is the migrant’s creatural dignity. By restoring the voice of women and mothers – the key figures in her narrative – Mambelli tackles them of marginality. The symbolic articulation of the protagonist’s migration exposes mythemes such as giving birth, home, roots.

Abstract
Renata Mambelli’s novel Argentina (2009) belongs to the overall discourse on the history of the Italian migration to Argentina. Such a subject emerged in Italian literature beginning from the nineties, with the purpose of representing the silent and unknown flow of people from one country to the other. A female novel, Argentina deals with the theme of Italian emigration during the thirties by embracing a gender perspective. The heart of the representation is the migrant’s creatural dignity. By restoring the voice of women and mothers – the key figures in her narrative – Mambelli tackles them of marginality. The symbolic articulation of the protagonist’s migration exposes mythemes such as giving birth, home, roots.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
