The work deals with the stability analysis of debris materials in an active volcano area. It focus on the Stromboli volcano, in the Aeolian archipelago (Italy). The slope instability phenomena at Stromboli are represented not only by deep-seated gravitational slope deformations, but also by more frequent large landslides, and shallow landslides, involving loose or weakly cemented deposits in the Sciara del Fuoco depression. To evaluate the stability of the debris materials filling up the Sciara del Fuoco, a numerical modellingwas performed by the particle code PFC2D (Itasca). The conceptual model is build up as a close-packed assembly of bonded or unbonded particles which interact according to their specific particle contact properties. Numerical model has then been used to perform the calibration of micromechanical parameters of the material and to analyse of the effect of some possible triggering factors specific for volcano active area.
