In the last fifty years, the achievements in terms of increased longevity and a fertility well below the replacement level have triggered an unprecedented and unstoppable aging process with a strong impact on labour market. Working-age people are shrinking numerically, the dependent old-age population is increasing faster as well as the average age of workers and demand for goods and services are changing. These dynamics, which will become particularly intense in the next two decades, are involving several elements of concern, mainly related to the balance of intergenerational transfers. On the one hand, the large flows of young immigrant workers have only mitigated the negative effects of aging. On the other hand, mature workers and the elderly are changing rapidly their characteristics. In the coming decades they will be characterized by levels of education and health conditions much better than today, with a positive impact on their wellbeing and work productivity.

Abstract
In the coming decades they will be characterized by levels of education and health conditions much better than today, with a positive impact on their wellbeing and work productivity.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
