In the Post-Tridentine era, the Decameron was a rich gold mine of ideas for Spanish authors who had to adjust their narrative aspirations to the restrictions imposed by cen-sorship. This paper focuses on the rewriting strategies of the three authors and aims at shedding light on the intertextual relations with Boccaccio: more often than not, their dialogue is not a direct one but it incorporates, on the contrary, previous rewritings. Timoneda’s text, for instance, is undoubtedly mediated by the 1429 Catalan version of the Decameron and by Johannes Carion’s Suma; Reyes, on the other hand, combines several sources and experiments with new narrative techniques to tell their stories, wrapping up licentious episodes in sententious comments; Zayas, often influenced by Lope de Vega, seems to have deliberately incorporated one of Boccaccio’s novella in one of her novels, showing thereby a notable creative flair which leaves the reader faced with the conundrum of the dazzling and baroque ambiguity of her language.
Nell’epoca postridentina, il Decameron offre una ricca miniera di spunti agli autori spagnoli, che devono confrontare le loro velleità narrative con le norme imposte dalla censura. I tre scrittori oggetto di questo studio rivelano peculiari strategie di adattamen-to e, dall’analisi delle loro opere, emerge che in molti casi il dialogo intertestuale non è diretto, ma mediato da precedenti rielaborazioni: è assai probabile che Timoneda avesse sottomano la versione catalana del Decameron del XV secolo e la Suma de Johannes Carion; Reyes intreccia più fonti e avvolge in un filtro moraleggiante i suoi esperimenti narrativi; Zayas, spesso influenzata da Lope de Vega, in una delle sue novelle sembra ispirarsi direttamente a Boccaccio e dimostra un notevole estro creativo, lasciando il let-tore di fronte a un enigma, nell’abbagliante gioco barocco di riflessi e apparenze dell’edificio verbale.
