Since the invention of printing, Virgil's works were a remarkable publishing success and also in Piedmont, an isolated area of Northern Italy in the sixteenth century, they were printed several times in order to meet the demands of a public, which was always wider and more culturally prepared. As it is not yet available an exhaustive discussion on Virgil's books edited in Piedmont during the sixteenth century, this paper is an attempt to provide a preliminary survey on the spot occupied by the Latin poet in the Duchy of Savoy during the Renaissance.

Abstract

Since the invention of printing, Virgil's works were a remarkable publishing success and also in Piedmont, an isolated area of Northern Italy in the sixteenth century, they were printed several times in order to meet the demands of a public, which was always wider and more culturally prepared. As it is not yet available an exhaustive discussion on Virgil's books edited in Piedmont during the sixteenth century, this paper is an attempt to provide a preliminary survey on the spot occupied by the Latin poet in the Duchy of Savoy during the Renaissance.
