Because of the high death rate attributable to them, lesions secondary to road accidents continue to be a topic of great scientific interest to the Milan morgue. The attention given has made it possible, over the course of the years, to construct a database that is constantly updated: the Authors present an analysis thereof up to 30 june 2004. The new laws on road safety (driving licence with deduction of penalty points and licence for mopeds)constitute a further inspiration for the analysis in course. meticulous examination of the internal necroscopy records (from which personal, thanatological and historical-circumstantial data were obtained) made it possible to construct a database covering 2.550 cases. In this paper the Authors present the results of their periodic updating, providing accurate information on the sex and age of victims, time and place of the event and above all on the specific dynamics and on the vehicle involved. These results constitute the foundation for subquent research aimed at analysis of individual forensic medical problems, in this instance the study of vehicle-dynamic correlations, and also evaluation of the impact of safety measures and of the laws based on the introduction fo the driving licence with penalty points on the number of victims of traffic accidents.
