Immigration is on the rise in recent decades. In this article, we first provide an overview of the recent evolution of global migration flows. We then analyze the main drivers of international migration, and how they have changed over time. Finally, we review the theoretical and empirical findings of the growing literature that analyzes the economic consequences of immigration in destination countries.
