In this essay I explore many reverberations of Seneca's heritage on Christian writers up to the sixth century C.E. Starting with the pseudo-correspondence of Seneca and St. Paul, I caution readers against confusing Christian respect for the figure of Seneca with respect for his writings. Once we make this distinction, we can eschew the supposed relationship between the positive Christian reception of Seneca and the influence of Stoicism among the Fathers.

Abstract
In this essay I explore many reverberations of Seneca's heritage on Christian writers up to the sixth century C.E. Starting with the pseudo-correspondence of Seneca and St. Paul, I caution readers against confusing Christian respect for the figure of Seneca with respect for his writings. Once we make this distinction, we can eschew the supposed relationship between the positive Christian reception of Seneca and the influence of Stoicism among the Fathers.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
