Abstract

Even adopted child, if they come in the family in the first life's months, can be breastfed. This in not only possible, but specially desirable, given the importance breastfeeding, nu-tritionally, psychologically and emotionally. Indeed, it is important to recognize the relational/psychological aspect of the breastfeeding, together with the nutritional one. Most of the mothers is able to produce milk, even in small quantities. Many adoptive mo-thers are able to induce lactation with the help of a breast pump every 2 to 3 hours, before and after the arrival of the adopted child. Some of the mothers intended to breastfeed her adopted child, resort to a supplementary nursing system, called SNS. The more the breast is stimulated by a breast pump or the infant suction, the greater the chance that the breast is able to produce milk, triggering physiological changes that would occur after childbirth. Furthermore, there are few effective drugs for the induction of the galactogenesis, defined Galactogogues. Among the most effective Galactogogues, we identify Domperidone and Metoclopramide. Before using any medication, a careful evaluation and correction of any conditioning factor is needed, such as the breast frequency and emptying. The medicine should never replace evaluation and counseling and, as for any drug admini-stered to nursing women, it is essential a careful follow-up of mother and child, executed by the family physician. Eventually, for the induced lactation success, it's essential that the mother can count on the support of skilled professionals to support her in her choice, in order to establish an impor-tant and intense relationship with their child.
