The work joins the debate on Inf. XXVI interpretation, proposing a symmetry between Ulysses’ shipwreck (vv. 136-42) and the representation of Salmoneus in Virgil’s Tartarus (Aen. VI 585-94). The textual comparison of the two episodes not only identifies exact textual matches, but also recognizes a structural homogeneity. Thus, such a proposition only enriches the analysis of the poetic construction of a character as complex as Dante’s Ulysses.

Abstract
The work joins the debate on Inf. XXVI interpretation, proposing a symmetry between Ulysses’ shipwreck (vv. 136-42) and the representation of Salmoneus in Virgil’s Tartarus (Aen. VI 585-94). The textual comparison of the two episodes not only identifies exact textual matches, but also recognizes a structural homogeneity. Thus, such a proposition only enriches the analysis of the poetic construction of a character as complex as Dante’s Ulysses.File in questo prodotto:
