This work examines an unpublished manuscript of eighteenth century that contains treatises and dissertations written by judges of Venetian mainland between XVII and XVIII century. The research focuses in particular on works of Giovanni Guidozzi, an important jurist at that time. The examination of all these sources allows to reconstruct the different stages of criminal procedure administered in the Terraferma’s penal courts in the modern age. Venice however has a strong influence in the administration of criminal justice: the relationship between the capital and its territorial state is complicated and the judges of the mainland, also called assessori, represent an important point of contact between these two worlds.

Abstract
This work examines an unpublished manuscript of eighteenth century that contains treatises and dissertations written by judges of Venetian mainland between XVII and XVIII century. The research focuses in particular on works of Giovanni Guidozzi, an important jurist at that time. The examination of all these sources allows to reconstruct the different stages of criminal procedure administered in the Terraferma’s penal courts in the modern age. Venice however has a strong influence in the administration of criminal justice: the relationship between the capital and its territorial state is complicated and the judges of the mainland, also called assessori, represent an important point of contact between these two worlds.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
