The paper is focused on linguistic, psychological and comparative investigation into the interaction between language, thought and categories in the 19th century, with particular regard to the role of language within Johann Friedrich Herbart’s (1776-1841) philosophical psychology and Heymann Steinthal’s (1823-1899) Völkerpsychologie.
