The dynamic behaviour of many systems of coupled harmonic oscillators can roughly be described in the following way. The phase space is divided into two complementary regions, and there exist two values E1c, E2c ( E2c> E1c) of the energy E such that the part of phase space with E< E1c belongs to the first region and the part of phase space with E> E2c belongs to the second one, while the remaining part belongs partially to the first and partially to the second region.

Abstract

The dynamic behaviour of many systems of coupled harmonic oscillators can roughly be described in the following way. The phase space is divided into two complementary regions, and there exist two values E1c, E2c ( E2c> E1c) of the energy E such that the part of phase space with E< E1c belongs to the first region and the part of phase space with E> E2c belongs to the second one, while the remaining part belongs partially to the first and partially to the second region.
