The Gabor transform is a time-frequency transform in which the signals are expressed as the sum of wavelets of sinusoidal form and Gaussian amplitude variation. In this paper, we propose the Gabor transform as a measurement technique useful for detection and analysis of short-time transient phenomena. In particular, our purpose is to detect partial discharges, which show up as very short pulses added to the low frequency power carrier. Capabilities of a Gabor-like algorithm for partial discharge detection are discussed in the paper, as well as the influence of mathematical and instrumental parameters on the performance of the method.

Abstract
The Gabor transform is a time-frequency transform in which the signals are expressed as the sum of wavelets of sinusoidal form and Gaussian amplitude variation. In this paper, we propose the Gabor transform as a measurement technique useful for detection and analysis of short-time transient phenomena. In particular, our purpose is to detect partial discharges, which show up as very short pulses added to the low frequency power carrier. Capabilities of a Gabor-like algorithm for partial discharge detection are discussed in the paper, as well as the influence of mathematical and instrumental parameters on the performance of the method.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
