The images through which the world appears are neither configurations that act on the basis of immutable principles nor a flow of contingencies without connection. Descriptive gaze has a structural character, which articulates its essential form in acts related to the intrinsic characteristics, qualities and values that objects and ages themselves unfold. The world of things therefore does not place itself in a static and formal space, on a screen where illusory images are moving, but in a lived space, the essence of which cannot be reduced to its mere historicity. The concept of representation, central in the context of modern philosophy, is here considered in a phenomenological perspective and described through its symbolic meanings.
