TRAINING, TRANSLATING AND TOURING IN VENICE is a multidisciplinary programme focusing on Venice's unique environment as a city of many languages and cultures, an ideal "training ground" for a translator or writer. Students learnt to interpret this complexity from various methodological viewpoints and produce artistic representation of their experience. THE TARGET GROUP. 28 students (mostly MA) and 8 teachers from Milan, Warwick, Szeged and Venice universities, specialised in theatre studies, translation studies, travel writing, creative writing, body studies and ICT skills. The IP's MAIN ACTIVITIES include seven modules/workshops: 1. "Translation as a means of Cross-Cultural Encounters and Language Philosophical Investigations" (A. Kérchy). 2. "Polylingual writing and self-translation. Moving across the Mediterranean" (L. Polezzi). 3. "Workshop in multilingualism in the commedia dell'arte"(P. Puppa). 4. "Lost in translation. Gaps, misunderstanding and transcodification in theatre and cinema" (M. Cavecchi). 5. "Workshop on writing, translating and performing multilingual Venice" (M. Rose, R. Gabrielli). 6. "Gendering Translation" (E. Maestri) 7. "Workshop on translating into Digital: Preserving and Disseminating Cultural Heritage through Digital Humanities" (L. Kocic-Zambo) IN WEEK ONE modules at Palazzo Pesaro Papafava were complemented by peripatetic lessons: guided tours of the Jewish ghetto, walking tours in Venice to listen and record conversations in different languages and dialects. Attendees kept diaries of their multisensorial experiences to create a multilingual response to their encounter with the city. IN WEEK TWO we produced multilingual, multimedia monologues (of 5 minutes each) which students wrote, translated and performed in selected locations in Venice.
