By examining the state of criticism of two famous british authors, Charles Dickens and Virginia Woolf, Orestano argues that their lives and works are to be viewed in strict relation to the city in which they dwell and become writers; in addition to this, their works are examined, especially through the critical lens of the dialectics East End West End, which affect so much of their fiction. Eventually evidence is given of the lifelong interest of Woolf in Dickens's construction of character and place; a place that also for Woolf is the basis of her entire production, and indeed a text, eliciting lifelong curiosity and investigation.

Abstract
By examining the state of criticism of two famous british authors, Charles Dickens and Virginia Woolf, Orestano argues that their lives and works are to be viewed in strict relation to the city in which they dwell and become writers; in addition to this, their works are examined, especially through the critical lens of the dialectics East End West End, which affect so much of their fiction. Eventually evidence is given of the lifelong interest of Woolf in Dickens's construction of character and place; a place that also for Woolf is the basis of her entire production, and indeed a text, eliciting lifelong curiosity and investigation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
