Correlation between BLV infection, class I and class II BoLA haplotypes and virus transmission from dam to calves has been analysed in Holstein Friesian herds, characterised by an high rate of infected animals. BoLA-A20 and DQB-12 alleles, transmitted from dam to calves, Showed a significant influence on the "in utero" BLV infection. Our results support the hypothesis that major genes, within or closely linked to the BoLA system, can influence the resistance/susceptibility to the subclinical progression of BLV infection.
