The injector of the European XFEL will use a third harmonic RF system at 3.9 GHz toflatten the RF curvature after the first accelerating module before the first bunchcompression stage. This paper presents qualification tests of the prototype cavities andthe status of the activities for the realization of the third harmonic section of theEuropean XFEL towards its commissioning due in 2014.
