rom a technical point of view, the international debate about the history of electrical transmission lines is widespread. Overhead lines and pylons, however, could be also analyzed in their cultural, aesthetic and natural meanings. In particular, they are symbols of modernity keeping the pace with the evolution of structures and technologies - since their origins until the present time. This paper is based on a comparative method which focus on the international, historical context. At the same time, it was conceived as a multidisciplinary approach, linked to different themes: History of technology, Geography, Social and Political History, Literature and Arts.
