The study considered 447 of the total 4,614 graduates, i.e. 9,68%. Of these, 364 came from the province of Como, and 83 from Sondrio. In addition to analysing the course of study, each student’s post-graduate professional career was also reconstructed. Therefore, a kind of prosopographical study has been carried out to bring to light the biographic profiles of the men and women (albeit the latter in quite limited numbers)4 who – as will be seen – established successful careers in a wide range of disciplines, sectors, and contexts. Intersecting this data with a close reading of several cases provides clear indication that the Politecnico di Milano – now in its 150th year – is an educational institution open to technological and design innovation, and one which has had a major structural impact on Italy, fulfilling the country’s needs in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, and manufacturing.
