The enforcement of the antifascist purge at the Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere was regulated by the General Order n. 35, issued on February 1945 by the Allied Military Government. Antonio Banfi, professor of History of Philosophy at University of Milan, was nominated commissioner on 28th August, 1945. In the next days he convened a board composed by Luigi Castiglioni, professor of Latin Language and Literature at University of Milan, Arturo Danusso, professor of Construction Sciences at Politecnico di Milano, Plinio Fraccaro, professor of Ancient history and rector at University of Pavia, Eugenio Medea, professor of Neuropathology at University of Milan and Emilio Veratti, former professor of General Patology at University of Pavia. The purge board, approved by the Education office of Allied Military Government in Milan, met nine times from 6th September to 11th December, 1945. During these meetings, the board drew up a list of 18 effective members and 14 correspondents on the basis of their fascisi backgrounds and in the same time asked them justifications. Finally Giuseppe Belluzzo, Giuseppe Bruni, Livio Cambi, Giuseppe De Capitani d'Arzago, Alessandro Luzio, Eliseo Antonio Porro, Paolo Vinassa De Regny (effective members); Giovanni Emanuele Barié, Emilio Betti, Ardito Desio, Gino Pollacci, Gioacchino Volpe, Edoardo Zavattari (correspondents) were suspended from their membership. In the following years, and in particular after the amnesty of 22nd June, 1946, in Italy many fascists were acquitted and restored to their former roles. Livio Cambi and Ardito Desio were reinstated in the Istituto Lombardo on 19th May, 1949.
