The theologian, philosopher, musicologist, philanthropist Albert Schweitzer, in his book Verfall und Wiederaufbau der Kultur (1923), the first part of his Kulturphilosophie, denounced the crisis of the European civilization. Only a new philosophy, which anew meditates on the civilization and marries knowledge and ethics can save the humanity. Beginning from these considerations, Schweitzer elaborated his important and un to date ethic of the reverence for life.
