'Organisten' (The Organist, 2006) is an essay in dialogic form, in which Petter Amundsen illustrates to the Norwegian writer Erlend Loe his hypothesis on Shakespeare's identity, in fact a new version of the Baconian theory. This article focuses on Loe's attitude while listening to this theory. Amundsen is an organist by profession and no expert in the field of Shakespearean studies. Therefore, Erlend is mistrustful at first, but he becomes more and more fascinated by his interlocutor's explanation. He especially appreciates Erlend's enthusiasm and commitment to his project. Moreover, questioning a highly praised name such as Shakespeare, he offers the opportunity to defy a commonly acknowledged truth - a particularly intriguing circumstance in Loe's eyes.
