This article aims to underline the way in which the Italian press related the meeting between Pope Paulo VI and Amílcar Cabral, Agostinho Neto e Marcelino dos Santos – three of the major exponents of national liberation movements of the Portuguese colonies in Africa – on the first of July, 1970. The research involves the period between 25 th of June and 6 th of July, 1970. It was developed on the pages of the following newspapers: Corriere della Sera and La Stampa, two of the most reputable Italian newspapers; Il Secolo d’Italia and Il Tempo, both of them close to the centre-right Italian political party; L’Unità and L’avanti!, both leftwing newspapers.
