In 2008, the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party announced new policies in the dissemination of public information to the general public. The effort would be to realize an articulated and coordinated information strategy to construct and offer to the public an authentic and up-to-date representation of the institutions and their activities. The political objectives stated by the above mentioned measures addressed three different aspects: presenting the country and the world “real” China, assuring a higher transparency on the work of the government and applying the right of the Chinese people to be informed. These policies would be realized through strategies of communication such as a system of press conferences, the appointment of spokesperson, regular news briefings, supported by old and new channels as the press and other media, the organ’s gazettes, official websites, etc. Starting from the analysis of the texts that inaugurated these policies, the author will address the main political objectives mentioned above in relation with the actual content of the Chinese Government official website, in order to verify to some extent the state of implementation of the project and to highlight some specific features of the representation of the State as disseminated on the web two years after the publication of the policies.
