Abstract

The systematic explanation of policy performance has become increasingly arduous: the ontology of public policies has enriched and the methods in use tend to magnify its complexity. The paper reasons that a consistent solution emerges when joining together the generative modeling of realist evaluation and the logical method of QCA, as the two supplement each other. The point is raised that generative policy models require a distinct QCA protocol to handle the remaining limited diversity. Thus, the paper advances a stepwise procedure to fit the rationale of generative models.
