Hamstrings lesions are common sport injuries and are the most frequent cause of sport arrest in professional athletes for an average time of more than 8 days. The recurrence rate is around 33% in the first 2 weeks after. Hamstrings lesions develop commonly in terminal swing under eccentric contraction. Muscular imbalance, lack of elasticity and flexibility have been considerated related to the risk of lesion. The role of stretching in the prevention of the risk of muscular lesion have been studied in terms of correlation of Range of Motion and frequency of muscular lesion of hamstrings. In this retrospective study the correlations between muscular lesion of hamstrings and muscular length have been studied to evaluate the presence of any correlation in a population of 20 athletes of an average age of 28,5 years. Clinical measures have been done by goniometry of knee ROM and muscular length have been evalued sonographically. All measures have been compared with a control healthy population of athletes. The results of the study showed a significative correlation between ROM and muscular length and a possible role of sonography in the identification of subjects at risk for lesion in case of insufficient muscular length.
