The problem of how the citizens of the former Eastern bloc countries perceived the enemyhas not been addressed fully, especially in psycological and political terms, even though this is fundamental to any analysis of the upheavals in Eastern Europe, especially between 1987 and 1991. Friend/foe relations between collective entities of such vast dimensions as nation-states or empires is a very huge and mostly uncharted territory. Nevertheless, the science of international relations has begun to develop theoretical models which have referred to the explanatory value of hostilities as a category. The chapter provides an interdisciplinary analysis of the concept of enemy/foe in the former Eastern bloc.

Abstract
The problem of how the citizens of the former Eastern bloc countries perceived the enemyhas not been addressed fully, especially in psycological and political terms, even though this is fundamental to any analysis of the upheavals in Eastern Europe, especially between 1987 and 1991. Friend/foe relations between collective entities of such vast dimensions as nation-states or empires is a very huge and mostly uncharted territory. Nevertheless, the science of international relations has begun to develop theoretical models which have referred to the explanatory value of hostilities as a category. The chapter provides an interdisciplinary analysis of the concept of enemy/foe in the former Eastern bloc.Pubblicazioni consigliate
