On receiving the annual medal 2012, I presented a paper titled: Coins as bread. Bread as coins. This paper intended to present a comparison of coins and bread from two points of view : 1) Coins and eucharistic bread : similarity here lies in some ritual uses of coins, a miracle, aspects related to iconography and other elements. 2) Bread and coins: a number of Italian medieval documents show a similarity between bread and coins in terms of careful regulation of price, weight and fineness according to the varying price of wheat and grains. Other ritual aspects will also be presented.
