The historical seminal work of Cesar Baronius, Annales ecclesiastici, marked a turning point in history writing not only for the Western culture after Counterreformation, not only for the Catholic world, but also for the Orthodox Slavic countries and cultures. The paper illustrates 1) some innovative points of view Baronius introduced in Western historiography about the Slavs, 2) some of the main historians who were influenced by or elaborated Baronius' work in Poland, Croatia and Ukraine in the 17th, in Russia and Bulgaria in the 18th century.
