The treatment of stones in solitary or transplanted kidney aims at stone clearance and at preservation of renal function. We present a review of the literature and two new studies on our experience with ESWL regarding a 3 to 18 months follow-up in 10 patients with a solitary kidney and a 3 to 12 months follow up in 8 patients with transplanted kidney. While open surgery has a limited role, ESWL, percutaneous nephrolithotomy or the combination of those two procedures appear to be the treatment of choice with minimal effects on renal function.

Abstract
The treatment of stones in solitary or transplanted kidney aims at stone clearance and at preservation of renal function. We present a review of the literature and two new studies on our experience with ESWL regarding a 3 to 18 months follow-up in 10 patients with a solitary kidney and a 3 to 12 months follow up in 8 patients with transplanted kidney. While open surgery has a limited role, ESWL, percutaneous nephrolithotomy or the combination of those two procedures appear to be the treatment of choice with minimal effects on renal function.Pubblicazioni consigliate
