The proportions of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (22 carbons, LCPUFA) are suggested as new quality parameters for boar and chicken spermatozoa. In these two species, positive correlations were shown between LCPUFA levels in spermatozoa and motility and ejaculate concentration. Furthermore, dietary manipulations can increase the proportion of LCPUFAs in spermatozoa with a concomitant improvement of the correlated quality parameters.
