Abstract
A convenient method for the environmentally friendly disposal of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), based on catalytic dehalogenation under mild conditions, is reported. By using 0.5% Pd on carbon in a fixed bed reactor at H(2) atmospheric pressure and at 453-503 K it was possible to obtain high conversion of PCB to HCl and hydrocarbons, mainly biphenyl.
