A geometric technique based on Gauss' principle of minimal contraints is developed in order to handle mechanical systems with singular Lagrangian of a particular type in the presence of kinetic constraints. An application to the Hamel-Appell system and in particular to the study of its behavior at the limiting situation is presented.

Abstract
