Sufficient conditions for a manifold M to me diffeomorphic to the first jet-extension J_1(N) of a fibred manifold N are given in terms of almost jet structures, i.e. pairs (S,A), where S is a suitable type (2,1) tensor field over M and A is a completely integrable distribution. The canonical almost jet structure of the jet-bundle J_1(N) is exhibited. The particular case of jet-extension of fibred manifolds with one-dimensional base is analysed in detail.
