The muscular tissue of 42 cattle affected by contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) has been examined bacteriologically and immunohistochemically for the presence of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides. All cases were bacteriologycally negative. The presence of M.mycoides was immunohistochemically detectable in 16 cases. On the basis of our results, pathogenetical and meat inspection aspects are discussed
