The reaction of the thiocarbonyl complex [Fe(CO)2(CS)(CP)]SO3CF3 with the metal carbonylate Na[Mn(CO)5] leads to the novel heterodinuclear bridging thiocarbonyl complex [FeMn(mu-CO)(mu-CS(CO)4(Cp)], 1, in 38% yield together with smaller amounts of [Mn2(CO)10], [FeMn(CO)7(Cp)] and [Fe(mu-CS)CO)(Cp)]2. The molecular structure of 1 [triclinic, a = 7.718(1), b = 13.232(3), c = 14.657(2) angstrom, alpha = 72.49(2), beta = 79.18(1), gamma = 84.42(1)-degrees, Z = 4, space group P1BAR, R = 0.0361 shows that the Fe(CO)(Cp) and the Mn(CO)4 moieties are bound to each other through a direct metal-metal interaction (2.632(1)av angstrom] strengthened by two asymmetrically bridging CO and CS ligands.
