The border dividing Afghanistan and Pakistan, which is known as the Durand Line after the foreign secretary of British India who signed the border agreement, has long been a source of friction between the two states. In the presentation I will trace the origins of this dispute, from the end of the 19th century to the late 1940s,on the basis of British, Afghan and Pakistani archival sources.
