In anesthetized (Sodium Thiopental mg 15-25/kg i.v.), tracheostomized pigs, aging 2-90-180 days, was evaluated vagal mechanism regulating the time of the diaphragmatic inspiratory discharge. Inspiratory time was evaluated on flow trace (phasic TI) and on EMG of the costal and crural portion of diaphragm (TIEMG). Our results show that the time of the diaphragmatic EMG discharge reflects the output of the respiratory centers, modulated by volume/time dependent vagal inhibitory control. The inibitory vagal control is more marked in newborn (TIEMG vs TI-25%) than in adult pig (TIEMG vs TI-14%).

Abstract
In anesthetized (Sodium Thiopental mg 15-25/kg i.v.), tracheostomized pigs, aging 2-90-180 days, was evaluated vagal mechanism regulating the time of the diaphragmatic inspiratory discharge. Inspiratory time was evaluated on flow trace (phasic TI) and on EMG of the costal and crural portion of diaphragm (TIEMG). Our results show that the time of the diaphragmatic EMG discharge reflects the output of the respiratory centers, modulated by volume/time dependent vagal inhibitory control. The inibitory vagal control is more marked in newborn (TIEMG vs TI-25%) than in adult pig (TIEMG vs TI-14%).Pubblicazioni consigliate
