The article, after a brief analysis on the latest Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), is focused on the efforts made by the European Community for sustainable agriculture, in particular to guarantee the environment, food safety, animal and plant health and animal welfare standards. The article takes into account the changes that were supposed to be introduced by the Constitutional Treaty in the agricultural sector.
