Large white pig and human blood oxygen affinities are different due to different primary structures of hemoglobin. Empirical equations are reported to predict the oxygen partial pressure at half-saturation of hemoglobin (p50) from known values for pH, pCO<inf>2</inf> and 2,3-diphosphoglycerate, with an accuracy of ±0.82 torr.
