Monitoring of patients at risk for invasive fungal infections

The management of invasive fungal infections in immunocompromised patients is a major problem in modern medicine. These mycoses are life-threatening and difficult to diagnose and treat. Prognosis can only be improved by a strict mycological surveillance applied in the period of highest risk. Protocols are described for specific groups of immunocompromised patients (in intensive care unit, with burns, after major surgery or organ transplantation, with cancer after chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation, with AIDS).
