Abstract

Visualization literaly means to produce something suitable to be ‘submitted’ to our vision system, ‘to make it visible’ (from the english dictionary). In performing this fundamental stage of scientific research, how much and to which depth we consider the actual characteristics of the human visual system ? Or, alternatively, to what extent we rely on severe simplification of the vision process? The talk will go through some interesting properties of our vision, specially related to color perception, that show how it is very different from the naive idea of a passive ‘biological camera’. The thread of the talk will be to consider the non-linear, local and adaptive characteristics of the human visual system to stimulate possible alternative and innovative approach to visualization.
