A combination containing equal parts of tiletamine and zolazepam HCl was given i.m. to 77 unpremedicated cats at 15 mg/kg (9 cats) or 20 mg/kg (68 cats) for major (55 cats) and minor surgery (22 cats). With the 20 mg/kg dosage surgical anaesthesia appeared in a mean of 26 minutes and persisted for 59 minutes. Its analgesic effects were insufficient in 10 cases of major and 3 of minor surgery. Seven cases showed undesirable side effects (painful injection in 4, respiratory problems in 2, and swallowing during surgery in 1). It is concluded that this combination is useful for minor surgery in cats
