The authors address the issue of size efficiency, also using econometric techniques, of a representative sample of European banks and its changes following the current financial crisis. The study, which comes after a previous paper based on data as at 2006, reveals persistent economies of scale, albeit more limited compared to the previous study, whenever the production mix of the banking system is specified in the estimates. More significant results are obtained when the higher or lower weight of bad credit is expressly taken into account.

Abstract
The authors address the issue of size efficiency, also using econometric techniques, of a representative sample of European banks and its changes following the current financial crisis. The study, which comes after a previous paper based on data as at 2006, reveals persistent economies of scale, albeit more limited compared to the previous study, whenever the production mix of the banking system is specified in the estimates. More significant results are obtained when the higher or lower weight of bad credit is expressly taken into account.Pubblicazioni consigliate
