In the present essay the past and current production and use/release are outlined for the nine POP pesticides know as the "dirty dozen" (Stockholm Convention) and a few candidates. Also, a general picture is given on the presence of POP pesticides in the Lombardy Region and on the measures taken to prevent contaminated food to enter the regional market.
